Three Mast Group Featured on RTVE For Its Role in South African Summit

Three Mast Group's Ryan McHenry was recently featured on Spanish public broadcaster RTVE to discuss his work in bridging sustainable European infrastructure companies with local governments around the world to develop clean energy and waste management projects.

McHenry was joined by colleagues that he invited from the European Commission's Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, which sponsors related trade missions around the world, and AECID, which is Spain's main agency for international cooperation and development.

The interview centered on a recent trade mission to Cape Town, South Africa, where McHenry and a dozen other European engineering, construction, energy, and consulting firms connected with local South African companies and mayors offices from around the continent to discuss their environmental, energy, and waste management needs and to co-create solutions together before developing proposals for national and international development banks. Investors, debt providers, and project preparation facilities were also present during the summit.

During the conversation, Ryan represented the challenges and opportunities from the perspective of European companies wishing to support Africa's development:

"From a general perspective, these cities across Africa are facing many of the same problems that we're facing in Europe, but on another level....When you speak with these local governments, you'll notice there's extra nuance to their problems that we aren't necessarily facing, like informal waste pickers, for example, if we're speaking about waste management. Waste management is absolutely a problem for (these cities), but part of facing this issue and developing a solution is ensuring that (the informal waste pickers) don't lose their jobs. So the main problem is waste management, but there are additional challenges related to the principal issue."
