US Market Landing Workshop With 28 Digital: How European Founders Can Better Pitch US Investors

Three Mast Group's Ryan McHenry presented at a US Market landing workshop organized by 28 Digital (formerly called EIT Digital), which was specifically designed to help Spanish and European entrepreneurs to make the jump across the pond into the US. The workshop had several themes, including: understanding the Silicon valley mindset, pitching to US companies, pitching to US investors, and legal considerations.

28 Digital is a leading European innovation and education organization established by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) to drive Europe’s digital transformation. It operates as a pan-European ecosystem that brings together startups, scaleups, corporates, universities, and research centers to accelerate innovation in key digital areas like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and smart cities. Notably, 28 Digital's Silicon Valley office flew to Madrid to help carry out the workshop and reinforce key points.

Ryan's presentation focused on how Europeans can more effectively pitch US investors, keeping the following in mind:

• beginning the pitch with a personal story

• planning a "customer journey" for a pitch that can last many months

• understanding investor biases when it comes to country-of-origin

• balancing storytelling with key facts and traction in areas related to sales, prestige, and the ability to execute

• and understanding that what works at home may not work abroad

He also discussed when the right time is to set up a legal US entity, the key financial considerations of that legal change, and if there are generally accepted alternatives.
